Household toxins that can make your Mi-Ki sick

Mi-Ki dogs and puppies, like small children, are curious and may be at risk of ingesting or coming into contact with household toxins that can make them sick. Here are some common household toxins that can be harmful to puppies:

Plants

Many common houseplants are toxic to dogs. Examples include sago palms (especially the seeds), philodendrons, and lilies. Ingesting these plants can lead to gastrointestinal upset, drooling, and more severe symptoms in some cases.

Cleaning Products

Household cleaning products, such as bleach, ammonia, and certain disinfectants, can be harmful if ingested. Keep these items out of your Mi-Ki puppy's reach.

Human Medications

Over-the-counter and prescription medications, including pain relievers, cold medicines, and vitamins, can be toxic to Mi-Kis. Keep all medications securely stored and out of reach.

Chocolate and Caffeine

Chocolate and caffeine-containing products can be very toxic to Mi-Kis and can lead to symptoms like vomiting, diarrhea, rapid heart rate, and even seizures.

Antifreeze

Antifreeze contains ethylene glycol, which is highly toxic to dogs. Even a small amount can be fatal. Keep antifreeze containers securely sealed and stored away from pets.

Insecticides & Rodenticides

Many common pest control products are toxic to dogs. If you use these products, make sure your M

i-Ki puppy cannot access the treated areas.

Onions & Garlic

These ingredients, whether raw or cooked, can be toxic to dogs and may lead to gastrointestinal distress and more severe health issues.

Alcohol

Alcohol can have serious effects on a Mi-Ki's small body. Keep alcoholic beverages and products containing alcohol out of reach.

Essential Oils

Essential oils are quite popular but many are harmful to dogs. Even diffusing some oils around Mi-Kis can cause drooling, tremors, weakness, and rashes. A few common essential oils to avoid using around your dogs include Cinnamon, Citrus (d-limonene), Pennyroyal, Peppermint, Pine, Sweet birch, Tea tree (melaleuca), Wintergreen, ylang-ylang, Anise, Clove, Thyme, Juniper, Yarrow, and garlic. This is not an exhaustive list, so contact your veterinarian for guidance.

Xylitol

Xylitol is a sugar substitute commonly found in sugar-free gum, candy, and some baked goods. Ingesting xylitol can cause a rapid release of insulin and lead to low blood sugar, seizures, and liver failure.

Tobacco Products

Nicotine is toxic to dogs. Keep cigarettes, cigars, and other tobacco products away from your Mi-Ki.

Household Chemicals

Many common household chemicals, such as paint, glue, and solvents, can be harmful if ingested. Ensure these items are stored safely.

Foods with Bones

Cooked bones can splinter and cause choking hazards or damage the digestive tract. Be cautious when offering bones to your Mi-Ki.

Grapes and Raisins

These fruits can be toxic to dogs and may lead to kidney problems.

If you suspect your Mi-Ki dog or puppy has ingested any toxic substances or is showing symptoms of poisoning (such as vomiting, diarrhea, lethargy, tremors, seizures, or difficulty breathing), contact your veterinarian or an emergency animal clinic immediately. It's essential to be proactive and take precautions to keep your puppy safe by keeping these household toxins out of their reach and providing a safe environment.
